Your City Guide, Curated By Hand.

The best places to eat, drink and things to do in your city. All personalized just for you.

The Idea

Impulcity was born out of a desire to explore the city's we live in. As you go about your week, many of the things you see & do are part of a routine. But what happens when you break that mold and experience new places and new things? Impulcity helps uncover all the amazing places around you, not based on an arbitrary scale of stars or biased reviews, but rather an honest depiction curated by a writer.

The goal was to build a discovery platform that provides powerful recommendations based on your location, interests, places you like to hang out and the people you enjoy being around.

Iterations and Agile Processes

In order to quickly validate a bevy of product assumption, we decided to work around a 2-week sprint, shipping new updates at the end of each cycle. This allowed us to quickly understand accurate use cases and fine-tune features in order to increase user engagement and retention.

We kept feedback loops short, showing iterations of our work almost daily. Observational interviews were routinely scheduled with users to help validate ideas in the beginning of our product sprints.
01

Validating assumptions with real products & users.

Going into the project with a host of assumptions, our key focus was to understand the key friction points for users and seperating the painkillers from the vitamins.

02

Using an agile process to quickly develop for multiple platforms.

We utilized a short feedback loop and user tests to quickly identify what was working. As soon as we found a successful product, we began porting for Web & Android to fit market demands.

03

Elimate feature bloat and deliver a problem solving product.

With each new iteration we were using Mixpanel and watching live user interactions to fine tune the essential areas of the product and understand where to cut back on features. Our primary goal was to keep users delighted with the core of the service.

The End Results

Impulcity was featured for 6-weeks straight in the App Store, featured on the Today Show and a wide variety of national media outlets. Averaging over 1,000,000 monthly active users in just 9 months from launch, it was one of the fastest growing products in the space.

City Discovery for Desktop

Opting for a four-column design, we had a ton of room for variable post types and layouts. The end result is a stunning home page with a design that gets out of the way and brings content to the forefront.
With large category dividers to break up the differing content sections, we're able to keep things interesting but familiar.

Activity Page

Centered content and elegant image layouts. Our goal was to bring the readers focus to the center of the page free from distraction. We offer writers multiple text placement options, quotes, images and embeds.
